New York State Electric and Gas Corporation’s Hickling power plant was created in 1948. It is a medium power-producing plant in Corning, New York. The plant was initially meant to provide power to Elmira and Waverly. The plant has two coal-fired boilers and turbines. The Hickling power plant was open for 50+ years prior to being acquired by AES.
The Hickling plant, which ran adjacent to the Chemung Basin River, utilized 75 million gallons of water per day. This water was pumped to Hickling’s coal-fired boilers. Pump stations used circulating pumps, condenser pumps and fluid pumps in addition to valves, gauges, and governors.
