New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct Unanimously Reelects Joseph Belluck as Chair
Belluck & Fox managing partner Joe Belluck has been unanimously reelected as chair of the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct. This reelection represents Joe’s fourth two-year term as chair, after he was first appointed as a member in 2008.
The Commission is an independent investigatory and disciplinary agency which enforces ethical behavior standards for judges within the New York State court system. It is responsible for monitoring conduct and ordering discipline when appropriate, governing over 3,500 judges at all levels (state, county, town, and village).
Commission members serve their terms in four-year increments and are initially appointed by various figures within New York State’s government – the Governor, the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, or one of four current leaders of the State Legislature.
Throughout his career in law, Joe has always believed in upholding high moral and ethical standards and behavior. He has received the highest possible rating (AV) for legal ability and ethical standards by Martindale-Hubbell every year since 2007, amongst numerous other commendations.
Before founding Belluck & Fox, Joe was engaged in many public policy-focused legal issues such as reforming the US Postal Service and representing New York State in its litigation against the tobacco industry – having been responsible for forcing them to stop sponsoring fake scientific research and to take down their billboards.
Belluck’s recognition goes beyond the courtroom. In addition to serving as chair of the Commission, he is often called upon to speak at national conferences and is a trustee of The State University of New York. He is also committed to giving back, serving as chair of the boards for Precious Dreams, a national organization that provides comfort items to foster and homeless youth, and CMind, which promotes meditation and contemplative practices on college campuses.
