Luis Umana practices personal injury law at Belluck & Fox, concentrating on nursing home neglect, personal injury, and wrongful death matters. His practice areas include medical malpractice, general personal injury, and injuries resulting from neglect in nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. Luis is a zealous advocate with several years of experience litigating a wide range of cases from inception to trial. His recent client representations include:
- Member of the trial team that obtained a $6.25 million verdict in Supreme Court Queens County against a nursing home for the choking death of an elderly resident in failing to provide the proper supervision during a meal.
- Member of the trial team that obtained a $10 million verdict in Supreme Court Bronx County against a nursing home for the death of an elderly resident in failing to effectuate a timely hospital transfer after a fall.
- Obtained numerous settlements during mediation with NAM/JAMS on behalf of clients against nursing homes, hospitals, physicians, and home health care agencies, after aggressively prosecuting those cases in courts all throughout the State of New York.
Prior to entering private practice, Luis served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx where he prosecuted crimes involving DUI, weapon possession, and assault.
Currently, Luis lives in Brooklyn with his wife and enjoys traveling, running marathons, and spending time with Cooper, their dog, on the beaches of Montauk.
