The USS Charles R Ware (DD-865), a Gearing-class destroyer, served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1974. Commissioned in Norfolk, Virginia, the ship was later transferred to Newport, Rhode Island, and participated in deployments with the Atlantic Fleet, the Mediterranean Sea, and Northern Europe. In addition to its operational missions, the ship also served as a training vessel and underwent multiple overhauls. After its decommissioning in 1974, the USS Charles R Ware was sunk as a target in 1981.
